How does life change within the context of Covid-19 and how can this question be discussed from the perspective of visual and media anthropology? This online class introduced students into important fields of research within visual and media anthropology – in a specific and topical way, since it used the example of everyday life in times of Covid-19 throughout. Students familiarise themselves with relevant concepts in times of crisis and change – such as solidarity, democracy, social distancing and social relations, public and digital space, surveillance and control, mobility and stasis – as well as methods in digital and media anthropology (Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter), in anthropological photography and film (photo albums, video diaries) or visual anthropology.
This class was planned and taught together with Christiane Brosius. It is research-based and students conceived as well as conducted their own projects within virtual teams. The results have been published in a blog which has been edited in a group effort.
[Wie ändert sich das Leben im Kontext von Corona und wie kann diese Frage aus Perspektive der Visuellen und Medienethnologie diskutiert werden? Dieses online Seminar führt die Studierenden in wichtige Forschungsfelder innerhalb der Visuellen- und Medienethnologie ein: es wird dabei konkret und aktuell, denn wir werden diese Einführung am Beispiel des Alltags zu Corona-Zeiten abhalten. Studierende werden dabei einerseits mit relevanten Konzepten in Zeiten der Krise und des Wandels wie Solidarität und Demokratie, Soziale Distanzierung und Soziale Beziehungen, öffentlicher und digitaler Raum, Überwachung und Kontrolle, Mobilität und Stillstand (…) sowie Methoden in der digitalen und Medien Ethnographie (Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter), in ethnographische Fotografie und Film (z.B. Fotoalben, Video Tagebücher) oder Visuellen Ethnographie vertraut gemacht.
Das Seminar wurde zusammen mit Christiane Brosius konzeptionalisiert und durchgeführt. Es ist forschungsbasiert und Studierende werden eigene Projekte entwerfen und durchführen, im Idealfall in einem virtuellen Team. Das Resultat wird in einem gemeinsam editierten Blog publiziert werden.]
